I Believe in the Power of Music

Bob Marley once said “One good thing about music is that when it hits you, you feel no pain.” I disagree. I believe in the power of music. Music is one of the most important things in my life….it has been there for me when I thought no one else was.
When you listen to music, and I mean really listen to it, it hits you in more ways than you could imagine. Have you ever listened to a song that brought you back to a time in your life? The strong emotion that you felt when you listened to that song is the music hitting you. You get this feeling like you were punched in the chest with all of these emotions that you just weren’t ready for. When you’re sad what kind of music do you listen to? Sad music right? You do this because you crave feeling that emotion more that how you already do. You feel sad but you can’t get that cry out so you blast the sad music and the music triggers something inside of you may it be a memory, whatever it is the music helps you let it out. You’re happy? You listen to the most upbeat music you have in your library. Music has the power to pump you up, infuriate you, and bring you crashing down.
Music, or the artists of the music (however you want to see it) can save lives. Songs with meaning can do more than just distract you. If you listen deeply to the words they can give you the strength to go on when you want to do nothing more than to give up. Music can be your voice. It can help you say things that you couldn’t possibly put into words. When words fail you the music can speak for you.
Your favorite song is probably your favorite for a reason. May it be the tempo of the song, or the lyrics, whatever it is that song speaks for you. When you show your favorite song to people you are showing them one of your deepest layers of yourself whether you know it or not. Your favorite song says more about you than you think it does. You most likely connect to the lyrics of it, That says something about you. It can show a hard time you went through, they can show one of the happiest times that you went through. The music can also be used as a distraction; once your headphones go in the world gets shut out.
In conclusion music can bring out your truest self. It can make you feel more emotions than you thought you could. Music means more to me that words can explain. Music helps me express myself… or give me the courage to, rather. Music is my voice.
